The prime minister has complimented the government and private agencies on improving traffic flow along Rama II Road while all construction work there is expected to be completed by next year.
Government spokesman Chai Wacharonke said on Wednesday that Prime Minister Srettha Thavisin admired the collaboration between state and private agencies in resolving the traffic problems on Rama II Road, allowing smoother journeys for motorists.
He added that Mr Srettha also ordered all construction projects there to be finished within the next year, which would provide road users with even better traffic conditions -- placing the highest priority on their safety.
Construction of Rama II Road started in 1970 and is still ongoing.
Mr Chai said Transport Minister Suriya Jungrungreangkit has constantly been dealing with problems on this road.
He said serious traffic jams will no longer occur as they did in the past, and the authorities will be able to control traffic on the road more easily during holidays.
He also cited the latest report by the Department of Highways, which states that all agencies worked together effectively during this year's Songkran holiday, allowing them to provide road safety to users of Rama II Road by returning smooth road surfaces to construction areas, checking warning signs, installing additional surveillance cameras and closing and opening reversible lanes.
There are four ongoing construction projects on this key road, comprising the Rama III-Dao Khanong-Western Bangkok Outer Ring Road expressway, elevated highway No 35 on the Thonburi-Pak Tho route at the Bang Khun Thian-Ekachai Interchange, special highway No 82 on the elevated Bang Khun Thian-Ban Phaeo route, and the Ban Phaeo Interchange.
All projects are expected to be completed by June next year, apart from special highway No.82, which is due to be finished by December 2025.

Rama II Road is a main highway to the South, but motorists have expressed concerns about safety due to numerous structural collapses on the artery.
In July 2022, a U-turn bridge beam fell in Samut Sakhon. In May last year a concrete slab fell, killing a worker. In January a crane basket fell, killing one construction worker and injuring another.
