There is a decent spread of events throughout the week to keep things ticking over, and with good variety too. See you out there.
PARTY
Start your weekend right tonight (Jul 20) at AFTR PRTY presents Coran's Birthday Rager. This time round will see the crew (facebook.com/aftrprty) herald the return of Matthew Cole and bring in Dane Wetschler of the Duck and Noodle peeps to man the decks with house - both tech, deep and otherwise - alongside Coran, who will celebrate his birthday with a rager, no doubt. It's being hosted in the familiar surrounds of the boxy after-hours cavern known as Glow (96/4-5 Sukhumvit Soi 23, 02-261-4446, www.glowbkk.com), the crew's home base. Entry is B300 with a drink; doors open 10pm.
ART
For a plastic arts fix, head tomorrow (Jul 21) to Up to Gu, the latest exhibition by 60 members of the growing art community up at V64 (143/19 Chaeng Watthana Soi 1 Yak 6, Vibhavadi 64 Road, Bang Khen Laksi, 02-973-2681-2, 089-143-0986). It's a grab bag of installations and sculptures in a variety of trajectories and styles. The opening party will start at 6:30pm and go as late as you want it to; with free entry, as per usual. Art is up until Aug 21 (facebook.com/events/324510947630275).
SPOKEN WORD
Continue the courtly mood of Sat evening (Jul 21) at Bangkok Poetry: Bombyx Stories, a night of spoken word from some of the city's more discerning wordsmiths. It's set in the vein of New York City's The Moth, an established series of events that draw listeners to storytellers like moths to the light across the US. It's a new concept in the City of Angels, but provides plenty for those with an imagination and thirst for narrative. Speakers include Philip Cornwel-Smith, Teddy Spha Palisthira and Joe Cummings. It's on at Opposite (across from WTF, Sukhumvit Soi 51, www.oppositebangkok.com). Things start around 8pm.
PARTY
For something a little more high-brow for the week, check in at The Art of Hosting on Thu (Jul 26). Presented by Chivas and Le Baron, the soiree throws down the social gauntlet with a definitive French bent, courtesy of global merchants of chic Andre Saraiva and Lionel Bensemoun, who have built empires around their creative sophistication, the flagship of which being the Le Baron clubs in Paris, London, Tokyo and recently New York. Andre has put his touch on Bangkok already with his signature smiley face that can be seen on the wall outside Bed Supperclub and other random spots in the city. The event is the latest of a series of French-touched events, after French Tuesdays and Bastille Day celebrations last weekend set the tone. It's also in the vein of the current one-off global events trend, which has seen Bangkok get coveted invites from global parties such as Sensation (due here next month). And it's on at current cool spot Cabochon Hotel & Residence (Walpole Building, 14/29 Sukhumvit Soi 45, cabochonhotel.com). Things kick off at 8pm; dress code is "trendy luxurious in black and red velvet". The elements and the guest list are in place (for access visit facebook.com/chivasregalthailand). All that needs to happen now is the event. And it will. Don't be lazy.
