It's been 20 years and L'Arc-en-Ciel don't seem to have slowed down. With numerous hits and more than 13 million albums sold worldwide, the veteran J-Rockers have just released their 12th album, Butterfly. They're back on the road on a two-month global tour that includes a long-awaited headlining appearance in Bangkok on March 7. Prior to that, vocalist hyde answered a few quick questions from Brunch.
Can you tell us a bit more about your latest album?
Well, this album is not talking only about ''now'', but more about ''what's coming next''. Everyone's talking about our 20th anniversary, but while we are grateful and thankful for everything, we are focusing on the future as well. With this album, we would like everyone to watch us move forward. We would like to create music that makes L'Arc-en-Ciel even cooler and better.
What keeps you inspired and creative?
Giving and forgiving. Kindness and earnestness?
What's your secret to a long and respectable career?
Relax. Enjoy work.
Looking back, what's the most memorable experience?
There are innumerable experiences. I think each one has its own special memory.
Apart from music, you also express yourself through your fashion. How would you describe your style?
We're just wearing what we think is cool. We're flattered to be thought of as stylish, but we never really thought about that.
You guys always look younger than your real age. What's your secret?
I'm a vampire.
Thai fans have been waiting for so long. What can we expect from the show?
I've been waiting too. We want to make it a cool show, both the music and performance.
On the official website, fans can vote for their favourite L'Arc-en-ciel song. What's yours?
Probably Seppun [Kiss, from the album Smile, 2004].
