2019 Toyota Avanza facelift: Thai prices and specs

Indonesian-made mini-MPV receives a second update and comes in only two trims.

Toyota Motor Thailand has launched an updated version of the Avanza, a mini-MPV built in Indonesia and shipped over to Thai shores via regional trade benefits.

This is the second time the eight-year-old Avanza has received a facelift in a desperate bid to keep in fresh in its current generation. The first change came in 2015.

Only two trims are on offer now including G and E priced at 649,000 and 699,000 baht respectively.

There are new light and bumper design on the outside, plus an array of visual add-ons made available in the higher spec model.

The interior has also been modified to take a new touchscreen housing various applications. Likewise, steering-mounted switches and rear parking camera are reserved for the more expensive variant.

The 102hp 1.5-litre petrol engine and four-speed automatic remain unchanged. The same goes for the safety equipment which includes just two frontal airbags.

The seven-seat Avanza has the lowest starting price in the Thai mini-MPV market, where other models like the Honda Mobilio (659,000-753,000 baht), Mitsubishi Xpander (779,000-849,000 baht) and Suzuki Ertiga (655,000-695,000) compete.

While all of its rivals employ car-like, front-drive platforms, the Avanza sticks to chassis-on-frame with rear-drive format in the pickup fashion.
