    Hi there guys sorry for my late response.

    For Volkswagen it would be a viable choice setting up it's Utility Vehicle Devision shop n' factory in Vietnam for it's closed penal Truck the VW Caddy which is based on the VW Golf. And if the Vietnamese like it a size bigger Volkwagen could build the Caravelle in closed Penal Van or as 9 seater open Passenger Van configuration. The Caravelle Passenger Van could be imported into Thailand under AFTA agreement with zero import duties the same goes for it's Pick Up Amarok!

    Tau, I suspect that those three correspondents don't agree with the rip off part. The VW is expensive because it's an import.

    I notice 3 people do not like my comment,is it the rip of part or the fact that the Amarok has a leave spring rear suspension,this is a fact,there is no coil setup.Check out VW website.Why will VW make the coil set up only for Thailand,no where els?For the extra million baht?I do not think so.This market is to small. As for Japanees car makers i agree with cale-oosha

    My question is who would want to buy a 2 million baht pick-up, when there are kits to convert your Japanese truck to coil springs and trust me it rides beautifully.

    Not sure that a VW pick-up truck in Vietnam would work cale_oosha cause from what I see Vietnam prefers panel trucks to pick-up trucks.

    You said the Amarok has a coil spring rear suspension, in all other markets it has leave springs.Not sure you have the facts right.Maybe that coil setup is to be blamed for the extra 1 million Baht,a total rip off then.

    If Volkswagen would had penetrated the Thai market the same time as Opel was revamped into Chevrolet during the late 90 and early new Millenium it wouldn't be in the niche Market for imported Cars with the likes Peugot, and Citroen. PSA group is now making up from that! By setting up Shop'n factory in neighboring Malaysia! Meanwhile with AEC looming VW is nulling setting up shop'n factory in Vietnam & NOT Thailand for it's local presence!

    Finally! The Amarok is coming to Thailand though it's only imported and not locally assembled but at least it's coming! But with prices exceeding the 2 Milllion Baht mark. This ain't a Pick Uo for us common fellas! One reason you forgot to mention why Volkswagen ain!t setting up shop'n factory in Thailand for it's Utility Vehicles Division is that some of the officialdom are payrolled & favoritised by the Japaness Carmakers thus throwing all kinds of regulations and tripping stones to make it for Veedub the entry into the Thai market more expensive then it is!
