A Thai friend came to visit Europe. He was very surprised to see the diversity of car on the roads. Obviously, here the market is free… when the competition is stronger the manufacturers are obliged to offer high quality cars, very well equipped and more affordable. Thanks to it, the European cars are maybe the best cars in the world. Taxes barriers are toxic for the producer himself on a long period of time… and immediately for the customers!

Another case of ridiculous import tax strangling the economy keeping imported goods in the hands of only the richest .Scrapping this silly tax would allow normal people access to these things or is that the point ?

Worzel, the real price of this BMW 320d is not 3m... It is 930 000 bahts in Europe where the Focus equivalent (2.0 TDCI) is about 670 000... Then it is not 3 times more but only 38 %. OK, the BMW is more expensive, but the image, the technology, the quality and the consumption (25 % less) let at this time one step above. Nevertheless, The Focus is a very good car. I just regret that it is not yet sold in Thailand in Diesel version (consumption 30 % less than your 2.0, price per liter less expensive and less CO2 production).

How does this journalist deduce that a BMW at nearly 3m would be 'car of the year' when the Focus with almost the same power is virtually one third of the price?
Appreciating that it's not about power to weight, but 1m vs 3m?
At least there wasn't the usaual tirade against manual transmissions, which by the way Richard are far more popular in many other countries including ones with lots of traffic!

Barrocks, I’m completely agreed with you! The price of a Mini is 2.2 million Bahts in Thailand and can be 650 000 Bahts in France... Some Japanese cars made in Thailand are sold cheaper in France than in Thailand! Moreover, most of the models of cars made and sold in Thailand have a final quality (hard plastic for example) which no any European customer would accept. Even a Dacia Sandero which is considers here as a minimalist car has better plastics quality. It is the equivalent of Toyota Vios and can be buy here for about 300 000 bahts... The price of cars in Thailand is a shame. Moreover the workers who make it get 5 to 10 times less mon

ridicules prices, no wonder the Gov are happy with tax returns they are basically ripping people off..

14 million for a 911 that costs 5 million max in Europe, obviously too many people with more money than sense here
