British car sales hit four-year high in 2012: official data

Sales of new cars in Britain accelerated last year to more than two million vehicles, reaching the highest level since 2008 on the back of solid consumer demand, industry data showed on Monday.

Almost 2.045 million new cars were registed in 2012, compared with just over 1.941 million for 2011, industry body the Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders (SMMT) said in a statement.
