Defence Minister Prawit Wongsuwon on Thursday ordered all military units and their commanders to keep a close watch for websites running reports with lese majeste content, defence spokesman Col Thanathip Sawangsaeng said.

Pol Gen Prawit issued the order at today's meeting of the Defence Council.

All military units and their commanders who come across such websites were to coordinate with the Information and Communication Technology Ministry to take legal action against them, the spokesman said.

Units under the Internal Security Operations Command have also been tasked with monitoring community radio stations for lese majeste content.

Don't take it lightly. 'They' will go a long way to find you, search you out, arrest you,
may be torture you to have a reason to keep you in a hole for many years.
'They' come in your home, take your PC, question your kids and wife.
In the end 'They' will find something.
And if it's only - you don'nt cough in the right way.

You should read some books about what the Nazis did to their own people. In a non-democracy
    ANYTHING is possible !

    Chewing Gum....

I remember reading elsewhere some time ago a comment by someone believing him, or herself to be clever.

The suggestion was made that people do not complain about their freedom to chew gum in Singapore.

Well there are two essential differences.

One is that for chewing gum nobody risks getting thrown into pricon for up to fifteen years.

The other difference is, nobody would be jailed for discussing the rights and wrongs of public gum chewing or, at least they would have the right to ask "why".

The Thai LM laws can not even be questioned. And that is the essential difference between chewing gum in in public in Singapore and being jailed in Thailand.

Who knows, maybe public gum chewing is allowed in public in Thailand because it makes it more difficult for people to actually speak...

That is one of the problems my Thailand is facing.

They put the Generals in an "Inactive" post and they have nothing else to do (even when they are not in the "Inactive" post, they still do not have anything to do), so they have been putting out statements that they are not suppose to. Just like any other announcements, different agencies putting out announcements that are contradicting to each other, even within its own administration. Remember the economic situations in Thailand between PM, Dr. Korn/Kervkian, Dr. Korbsak, PM vs PM, Korn/Kervokian vs Korn/Kervokian, Korbsak vs Korsak?

Too many Generals in the first place, along with too many leaders.

It is the blind leading the blind.

Why if they started with themselves? How much will be added to their budget? They only got 10 billion extra for being Loyal to the GOV, where did this money end up,if not in the pockets of the most loyal Generals! So what about those getting nothing?

It is the bad idea to cencor all in information of the internets. It is imppossible to do and wasted the money and energy and people.

The government and the army should use the money and people to do other work for the good of the country such the security of Thailand.

The fact that it is impossible to stop or correct the rumours. If the stories are false or in accurate,Why don't they care about them?

Soon we will only be allowed to go to Abhisit's twitter page (less all messages but his) and to the Royal Thai Army page for our dose of propaganda.

Andrew - if you are out of the country and make a comment that they deem inappropriate you can be arrested the second you arrive or just before you leave as has been the case many times.

The main problem with LM is that there is no clear guidelines as what can and cannot be said. In the Media most make sure that any comments cannot ever be construed as LM or they do not make comments at all.

Just like that 500 million (or something) web filter that the old government planned a couple years ago - this is a waste of time, money and resources.

If you don't know how to get around censored or blocked sites (like Youtube was or whatever), you probably don't deserve to use the internet. Its too easy, thus making any attempt at censorship an absolute waste.

In amazing Thailand it seems the military don't even bother to hide their control and influence anymore.
Burma, Thailand close enough aren't they, I wonder how long it will be before other countries start talking about sanctions for here.
Already the U.S. refuses to discuss a Free Trade Agreement.
    What's the next step?
Does Abhisit really expect to be taken seriously with this and the latest military budget announcement.
