Senile old mom cooks for dead son

An 80-year-old woman cooked a meal for her 60 year-old son without knowing that he was already dead, police say.

Officers made the discovery on Friday after being called to investigate a death in the house in tambon Khlong Krachong in Sawankhalok district of Sukhothai province.

Inside the wooden Thai-style house, officers saw Jamnien Sangkhathong cooking in the kitchen. On the stairway was the body of her son, Winai Sangkhathong covered with a blanket. Apparently, the elderly woman had no idea that Winai was already dead.

    Dear BP Editors,

How is it in the public interest to publish stories like this? Turning a private tragedy into a public freak show, complete with vomit and dementia, is unworthy of the country's leading English paper... really!

Shame on the Bangkok Post for calling this loving mother senile based on what the neighbors said. Sounds to me that she was very caring and still able to prepare meals for her son. It is fairly easy to assume that someone is asleep when they have actually passed away.

Kudos to the loving mom for being so tough at age 80 to want to defend her house against what she thought were intruders. She sounds like she is quite spunky and full of pi$$ and vinegar.
