Debate Day 1 - 'comfortable'

Government MPs Sunday hailed what they said was a "comfortable" first day of the no-confidence debate against three cabinet ministers, largely because the opposition was unable to find any new material.

Pheu Thai MP Udomdej Rattanasatien, government chief whip, said late Sunday evening that the government was ‘doing fine’ based on the censure debate's first day.

He claimed the opposition did not have provide any surprises, and lacked sufficient information to back up allegations of corruption against the three ministers. Much of the debate centred on issues that had been discussed in various House committees and was not new.

To those of you who seem to blindly support "democracy".

IF corruption and populist policies such as the rice scheme eventually leaves Thailand with a debt similar to Greece, I assume we can agree that it will hit the poor the hardest, as they will be the first to lose their jobs, lower their salaries and run out of money. The poor will then start protesting, and usually they will blame the rich and/or politicians for their misery.

Can I then count on you PTP/red shirt guys to support me here on BP, when I write that the poor have only themselves to blame, and that they got exactly what they voted for?

Perfect synthesis of democracy between #2 (Let them finish their term, if people vote them in again.... you get what you vote for.) and #3 (all power to the people at the ballot box). And always remember that "democracy is the worst form of government except all the others that have been tried" (Sir W. Churchill).

Reading the daily news about government activities and spending give me, and I guess many others, always this idea that something fishy is happening. And I would be very surprised if there is no evidence at all to show that this government is corrupt and not working for the people. So why is the opposition not able to show lots of evidence? I see only some possibilities:
a) All is clean
b) PT is so good that they leave no evidence
c) Opposition politicians are too lazy to find any evidence
d) Opposition politicians are somehow part of the corruption scheme
I don’t know what is happening but somehow I think something is wrong here.

D1: agreed....

thats why the protesters led by Tul were so keen to break across Makkawan to get to parliament... and, despite carrying tear gas, weapons and smashing through with a 6 wheeler.... failed

all power to the people at the ballot box

if the dumb elites can learn how to attract voters then they might win an election and get another chance at being in charge ... but only if they behave until the next election

Nobody seems really to be interested in the censure debate, because the outcome is very clear. The opposition (it's not only the Dems), are blaming the government for what everybody already knows and the Phuea Thai just say "no, no, that is not true". End of censure debate.

Let them continue and finish their term. Give people 3 more years time to wake up, and if they vote them in again.... you get what you vote for.

just a damp squib, no body interested in dems fizzy fit, nothing new, won't change anything,forgot about by wednesday....their masterplan was to have this debate against a background of street violence and roars of demonstration outside parliament but um ah ? back to the drawing board
