MANILA: Philippine President Benigno Aquino has signed into law a family-planning bill that was blocked by the Catholic Church for more than a decade, a spokeswoman said on Saturday.

The law will take effect next month, presidential spokeswoman Abigail Valte said.

"The passage into law of the Responsible Parenthood Act closes a highly divisive chapter of our history — a chapter borne of the convictions of those who argued for, or against this act, whether in the legislative branch or in civil society," she said.

Yuo see. so the real problem is not population explosion. Why we blame population on our poverty problem. Controlling our population is not the solution it is our attitude- greedy, selfish, undiscipline and materialistic attitudes of us. This is not what God's plan. God creatted the world for everyone of us to share. The Philippines through this RH bill will try to control their population so that the few will have more money to save on their pockets. God knows what he is doing. The whole world is enough for all his people. It is not us who should decide if how many people should stay or live in a certain place it should be God.

Khun Patcher #14, the Bible tells us that we're living in a fallen world. That's why Christ came and will come again. And, Oh, yeah, God created this world for everyone, including greedy people. The question is how many of these greedy people, like Bill Gates and Warren Buffett, will learn to share their great wealth with the poor. I think we call a world without poverty "heaven." The problem is this world is not it.

Who ever said it was gonna be fair? Governing a country, in the best case, is about dealing with what is and what works. The Philippine government is doing a bit of something that works and I for one applaud them for it!

we don't have poverty only if the economy of the world is not controlled by few people. God did not create the world for these greedy people to control. The problem here is that our resources are not shared equally. Some are rich and still getting rich while others are poor and getting poorer. There is no equality

I think it is mission accomplished as the human population exceeds 7 billions. So, contraception, and family planning minus abortion on demand is the way to go, to improve the standard of living of those who were already born, and those who are about to be born.

Patchar: Your logic is flawed. Preaching restraint and "discipline" hasn't worked for the last 300 years, why would you expect it to change? The price of a condom doesn't even buy one meal for an unwanted child. But it can prevent a lifetime of hunger and misery.

Yeah, I read a lot about the good things happening right now in the philippines under the leadership of Aquino. Hope things will change for the better. If the philippine government has money to buy condoms and other contraceptives to give it to the people, then why don't they just use that money to buy food for the people. Filipino people needs foods than condom, pills etc. give them more works in the philippines so that they don't need to go out from their country to work and be abused. Signing into law the RH bill is a big mistake of this present administration..

Murray.The law doesn't only mean allowing the couples to use contraceptions and I've never say that mothers don't have any rights to limit the number of children they wanted.Infact,the Catholic Church is encouraging the couples to limit their children too.We can actually limit the number of children by natural methods.I don't need to tell you these natural methods I am talking here.You know it,I know.If a couple would really like to just have two children,they can do it through natural methods.Discipline is the key word here.I mean even if the government distribute a thousand condoms to a couple if said couples are not responsible it's useles

patchar : Where in the bible does it say you cannot use contraception? Over population is now a big problem in under developed countries and there is nothing wrong in allowing mothers the means to limit the number of children they have to bear. Anyway it should not be a matter for the Catholic Church to lay down the law on contraception - that is a matter for political leaders, bearing in mind the social and economic effects on the people they represent. You also mention 'president' and 'corrupt and greedy'. I trust you are not referring to President Aquino? Maybe you were referring to the last one-Arroyo? Now she WAS greedy and corrupt!
