Reds revive call for amnesty

Red-shirt leaders are floating two proposals to help secure amnesty for political prisoners, saying hopeful signs have emerged following recent statements by Privy Council chairman Gen Prem Tinsulanonda.

Surachai "Sae Dan" Danwattannanusorn, 70, a lese majeste prisoner, said the Yingluck Shinawatra government should act swiftly now, as Gen Prem has said that people who think differently should be able to live and work together toward nation building.

"Many people may think our country has been divided," Gen Prem said in an address to military commanders late last month. "In fact there is no division, just differences of opinion."

The majority of reds were peaceful. As in almost every protest you have a group of militants. Take for example the pit siam group was supposed to be peaceful, then a small group ruined it for everybody. If the reds really wanted Bangkok burned down, there were certainly enough of them there to do it. Next time the red shirts take over bangkok they might not be so polite, since they are ALL being acused of being criminals anyway. The old saying is so true. "Be careful what you wish for."

Abub: there should be no death on that day if no protesters/rally was held period. The rally causes all these mess up.

If it means AV and Suthep getting away with it...I refuse to accept this offer.

the red shirts, contrary to MEME's insistence, never burned down the city (even Central World's fire has yet to be proven) nor did they invade hospitals. Imaginings from silly people. They were looking for snipers, and since: 1) the army had snipers posted, and; 2) the hospital was tun by pro-PAD people, their fear was justified.

The innocent Thais for the most part are so far being proven to have been killed by soldiers.

What Thailand needs is all politicians, political party's, supporters and all thai people to sit down and reflect on the coups, the airport sit-in and Bangkok central protest, and ask themselves "What have they all achieve?" apart from destroying Thailands reputation. No amnesties no matter what colour, all accused to face the courts, then maybe Thailand can move forward.

I fail to see a valid connection between those who "think differently" and those who burn down buildings and commit other criminal acts.

  • Discussion 13 : 12 Jan 2013 at 21.2513

Why should there be amnesty for criminals? If you do something like burn buildings and murder or order soldiers to use live rounds on unarmed citizens you should be held accountable and face the courts. However, the court should deal with these cases fairly and swiftly. If the Dems and yellows are allowed to be free on bail the reds must also be free on bail. If not nobody should get bail. Abhisit included. Innocent unarmed childred and unarmed protesters were shot by the army. This makes Thailand a disgrace around the world.

'Beneficiaries of the Nitirat amnesty proposals, if accepted, would include protesters who physically engaged in demonstrations...'

Physically engaged. What does that mean ? Murder and arson ?

Not those convicted criminals should ditate the government for amnesty. They have done soo much damage in our country. Let them live behind bars for the rest of their life. These people are not political prisoners, but they are as worst as murderers who only think of their self interest.

The ignorance and arrogance of some reds is sometimes breathtaking....Amnesty for looting, terrorism and arson??? Why not ask top open all prison gates in Thailand??? Must be the way the red mind works......
