Every day 370 Thai teens give birth

BANGKOK - Every day roughly 370 teenage girls give birth to unplanned babies in Thailand, some under 15 years old, according to a study by the Bureau of Epidemiology.

The study also concluded that each day about 10 girls under 15 give birth to a child.

The study, conducted from 2008 to 2011, involved students in grades 8 and 11 and second year vocational students.

Apparently all comments show a definite opposition to teenage pregnancy and at some degree absolute disapproval. Maybe one should go around and find out from those teenagers how do they feel about their babies, how happy they are and all the positive aspects of it. If Nature allows such early conception than something is awkward with men´s thinking. Becoming a fully developed organism by having a baby is the best for health, instills responsibility, develops the character and true love feelings and they will have less time for Computer games and drugs which is a much more serious problem with lots of teenagers.Grand mothers become also happie

These are scary figures. Did anyone from BP did any research who is making these teenage girls pregnant, their teenage boyfriends or adults. Obviously parents have duty to deal with this problem before it occurs. People in government must do something how to solve this problem as it's nationwide problem.

They didn't do this alone which means some 200 to 300,
Thai men primarily, are guilty of ststutory rape and not
    prosecuted - DAILY !

I am think that parent should ask the child if they are having the sex at school, and if yes, then give condom, and tell them, that if not use, and have baby, then get out of house. Then child is scared and will use the condom every time.

agree with Disc. 1 and as well condom use should be encouraged and comdoms should be available in school washrooms or from the school nurse, if there is one.

Sex education and and birth control should be taught from grade 7 and the students should be reminded every six months on every aspect, and support to act with care.

I think legalised free abortions would make just a small dent in these figures. Further I think sex education would not make much impact either, one has to look at the causes of these pregnancies. Thai people do not invest in stocks or accumulate money in the bank, they have the peasant mentality that children are wealth, an investment for their old age. Daughters that get married are often a lost investment, they set up home elsewhere. Unmarried daughters with kids stay in the home, they and their children become family assets. Everywhere in my village I see illegitimate kids being reared by grandparents while their mother supports all.

"The Ministry of Public health is cooperating with related networks to encourage young people to not have a child until they can support it, and is providing support for schools to better educate teenagers about sex,” said Dr Chonlanan.

Now, that's a real smart and useful "solution".

What would actually help is making abortion readily available to young girls who are not ready to have a child. Immorally forcing them to give birth to unwanted children harms everyone concerned.

One part of a sensible and practical solution is to legalize abortion on demand, which is also part of a just and moral solution.
