Tourist surge expected for Chinese NY

BANGKOK - About 100,000 tourists from China and Hong Kong are expected to visit Thailand during the Chinese New Year next month and they would generate approximately 4.2 billion baht in tourism revenue, Tourism Council of Thailand (TCT) president Piyaman Techapaiboon said on Wednesday.

Ms Piyaman also said many foreign tourists have voiced their concerns about safety regarding the use of fireworks, about transportation problems, and inflated prices of goods and services.

She said Thailand must address these issues as well as other problems to better accommodate tourists and regain their confidence.

I am think that good idea if Tourism Authority Thailand make the T Shirt with Thai flag that say 'Made in China' for each Chinese Tourist, so they do feeling welcome .

I am think we should show Chinese tourist that we care about them. So I am think we should give them the 10% discount on all thing that they buy in Thailand that has label 'Made in China'

"Do Chinese get charged 'farang price'." If they are identifiable as foreigners, they do. A Chinese-American friend was getting the Thai price at a well-known hospital, until on one visit he got hit with a much higher bill. He asked why. They told him, "Before we thought you were a Thai Chinese."
