Seagate Technology (Thailand) Ltd, a leading electronic parts maker, has declared itself as a cause of April's export figure error, saying an incorrect value for its exports was input by a vendor of UPS.
The figure was recorded at 37.497 billion baht instead of 372,272.83 baht.
Edmund Pak Yew Lo, managing director of UPS SCS Services (Thailand) Ltd, the customs clearance agent for Seagate, acknowledged the error made by the vendor, which resulted in incorrect data being sent to the Customs Department.
After the export was completed, the department informed UPS that the value was wrong.
Jeffrey Nygaard, a senior vice-president of Seagate, said that once the company acknowledged the wrong value, it corrected the data immediately.
"We are working with UPS to improve the process to ensure that this type of mistake will not recur. On behalf of Seagate Technology (Thailand) and its supply chain, we apologise for the error and the misunderstanding that it caused about the country's total export value," said Mr Nygaard.
