JWD budgets B1.5bn for Asean plan

SET-listed JWD Infologistics Plc says it will continue its expansion in Asean, aiming to make foreign revenue 25% of the total by 2020, up from 8% now.

Chief executive Chawanin Bunditkitsada said JWD set aside 1.5 billion baht for its 2016 investment budget, mostly to be used for Asean expansion.

About 1 billion baht will go to mergers and acquisitions of companies in the region, with an eye towards local partners that own warehouses in Vietnam, Indonesia and the Philippines.

"We are considering which of these three countries we should invest in," Mr Chawanin said. "We aim to invest in order to gain revenue by the fourth quarter of 2016."

He said the rest of the budget would be used to expand existing projects in Myanmar, Cambodia and Laos.

The firm already rents a warehouse in Myanmar with a capacity of 1,500 square metres and is building a facility of 1,000 sq m to open in the second quarter of 2016.

JWD has also invested in a 3,000 sq m warehouse in Cambodia, where business is due to start in the second quarter. Another investment is a 750 sq m warehouse in Laos, where operations will begin in early 2016.

Mr Chawanin expects a leap in Cambodian business, while business in Myanmar will provide sustainable growth in the future after a slower start.

"We will invest mostly in Myanmar because we believe Myanmar will be an investment opportunity that will generate stable revenue for the company in the long run," he said.

Since JWD has already invested a great deal in Thailand, the company will pay more attention to neighbouring countries with booming economies.

JWD has warehouses in Thailand with a combined capacity of 775,000 sq m for regular goods, chemicals and dangerous goods.

In the first nine months of 2015, JWD posted revenue of 1.74 billion baht, up 10.4% from the year-earlier period. Net profit in the period was 230 million baht.

The company expects to have achieved its target of 10% revenue growth in 2015.

JWD shares closed on Dec 30 on the SET at 22.90 baht, up 90 satang, in trade worth 37.1 million baht.
