The cabinet on Tuesday approved a agreement to increase flight frequencies between Thailand and Russia.
The memorandum of understanding, which will take effect only after an exchange of documents between the two foreign ministries, aims to meet demand from Russian travellers to Thailand, government spokesman Maj Gen Sansern Kaewkamnerd said.
It increases flights between Bangkok and Moscow to 70 from 40 a week and doubles weekly frequencies on routes to Phuket and St Petersburg to 28, according to a statement released after the meeting.
Thailand also will allow Russia to replace a Chiang Mai-Irkutsk route with one linking Krabi and Novosibirsk for seven flights a week, it added.
The number of Russian tourists dropped 44% to 884,000 last year from 1.6 million in 2014 due to the historic devaluation of the rouble and Russia's faltering economy, Tourism Department figures show.
Thailand, however, remains among the top five destinations for Russian travellers. Their favourite destinations in Thailand are Pattaya and Phuket.
Thai Airways International ended service between Bangkok and Moscow last year, claiming the route was unprofitable.
