Deputy Prime Minister Prawit Wongsuwon has confirmed a car bomb warning is still in force for the inner Bangkok business district of Sathon, but insisted security units are fully prepared to meet the threat.
He vouched for a warning re-issued by the Sathon district chief, which followed an earlier similar warning late last month.
Security authorities were doing their best to prevent such an attack, and there was no need for people to be worried, said Gen Prawit, who is also defence minister.
On Wednesday Gen Prawit convened a meeting of senior members of the National Council for Peace and Order at Government House to discuss strategy. Topics included security issues. The defence permanent secretary and chiefs of the Supreme Command, the army, the navy and the police were among those in attendance.
Gen Prawit had a private discussion with army chief Gen Chalermchai Sitthisart before meeting reporters and confirming the car bomb warning for Sathon district.
