Job description

Position Summary:

Learning Support Teachers work under the direction of Director of Learning Support.  The Learning Support Department includes the Director of Learning Support, Learning Support Teachers and Learning Support Assistants. They work together, often in conjunction with the Learning Mentors, to support students with a wide range of emotional, social and academic needs. The School is well resourced, thriving and successful with a range of ICT resources available to aid learning. Our students are diligent, motivated and enthusiastic. We benefit from close communication and relationships with our parent body.

General:

Shrewsbury is one of South East Asia’s outstanding international schools, with enrolment of 1700 students from Early Years to Sixth Form, exceptional examination results and particular strengths in the creative arts, design and sport. The school itself enjoys a delightful and spectacular setting, right on the banks of the Chao Phraya River in the heart of Bangkok. Qualification

Candidate Profile:

The successful candidate:

• will be a fully qualified teacher or a professional in the area of SEND or a specific subject area

• Will have experience of teaching and supporting children with SEND

• will have experience of planning and delivering interventions in an educational setting

• will have Knowledge of  the stages of child development;

• will be a dedicated professional capable of inspiring students;

• will have the ability and aspiration to attain high standards;

• will have either experience of working with  Learning Support students or a desire to broaden his / her experience and skills in Learning Support teaching and learning strategies;

• will have assessment for learning skills;

• will have a flexible approach to working within the school curriculum and structures;

• will have demonstrated an appreciation of the value of the extra-curricular dimension in developing the potential of students;

• will have excellent interpersonal skills and a positive approach to professional development particularly in the areas of SEND, EAL and ICT;

• will have the ability to work within and apply all school policies e.g. behaviour management, child protection, Health and Safety, Equal Opportunities etc.

Professional Expectations:

The Learning Support Teacher should have the following qualities

• be a positive, proactive and committed member of The Learning Support Department

• have the ability to assess, identify and plan support for a range of learning needs; particularly in English

• recognise the special educational needs of pupils through observation and diagnostic assessment

• be responsible for teaching, on an individual or small group situation, a caseload of children with Specific Learning Difficulties

• develop, administer, evaluate, and report progress on programmes of intervention to support children’s needs.

• support teachers so that pupils with additional learning needs in mainstream classes can access the curriculum appropriately.

• support the Director of Learning Support in developing and maintaining SEN identification, assessment and pupil progress tracking within the department and across the school

• support the Director of Learning Support in maintaining and reviewing departmental policies, practices, record keeping, information dissemination and administrative tasks

• support the Director of Learning Support in providing professional development for Learning support assistants and teaching assistants

• maintain an up to date knowledge of SEND legislation, current SEND developments, strategies and resources

• work with the class teachers in setting targets for raising achievement among pupils

• participate in the general day to day activities of the school as a whole and undertake a share of the staff duties. All staff are expected to attend Junior/Senior and Whole School staff meetings, Parents’ evenings and Training days

Child Safeguarding:

Shrewsbury International School is committed to Safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children. The successful candidate will be required to

• attend in-house Child Safeguarding programmes

• promote and safeguard the welfare of all students in the school • report to the Child Protection Officer any concerns they have for the welfare of a student. This may include unsafe practices witnessed within the school as outlined in the school’s Speak Out (Whistleblowing) Policy.

• keep professional relationships with students where personal boundaries are respected and maintained

• seek advice from a Line Manager or Child Protection Officer with issues or concerns related to Child Safeguarding.Requirements:

• Enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service Check (DBS) prior to the start of contract.

• Formal proof of identity with photo ID (Original Driving License / Passport).

• 2 signed, confidential references (one of which will be from the candidate’s current headteacher) before the start of contract.

• Verification of original qualifications.
