Visitors to Ayutthaya Historical Park this Saturday and Sunday will have a chance to witness the World Wai Kru Muay Thai Ceremony 2024, with Wat Mahathat and Wat Langkha Khao serving as the major ritual grounds.

Hundreds of Muay Thai boxers from all over the world will be participating in this year's holy ceremony to commemorate the age-old martial art of muay Thai and to express their thanks to masters and trainers in the traditional manner.

Highlights include the procession of muay Thai masters and boxers, the ritual of blessing and wearing the auspicious headband, and the highly anticipated Wai Kru Muay Thai dance. A muay Thai exhibition, Thai martial art performances, and the teaching of historic Thai boxing methods from several regions are also on view.

Alternatively, visitors can take part in various stamina tests and traditional muay Thai training drills like kicking a sack. When shopping for mementos, tourists will find a wide range of lovely handicrafts influenced by Aranyik bladesmithing, Yantra writing and tattooing.

Cherry blossom season is around the corner

This year, the cherry blossom season in Tokyo and Kyoto is predicted to start on March 23 and last until April 1. Thus, Japan invites visitors to enjoy the beauty of Mother Nature in spring.

In Tokyo, when twilight descends, Ueno Park will be brightened by cherry blossom illuminations from Saturday until April 7. In addition, visitors can enjoy the Tokyo Spring Music Festival 2024, colourful parades, professional wrestling matches and the Hakubi Kyoto Kimono Academy's Kimono Show from March 22-31.

One of the best ways to spend time in Kyoto is to stroll down the 582m Keage Incline railway track at your own pace. During the Meiji period, the main mode of transportation was this old railway network, which moved boats up and down the steep slope by connecting the Kamo River with the Lake Biwa Canal.

It was restored in 1977 after the transportation system switched to road, and since then it has grown in popularity as a destination for tourists wanting to take in the sea of vivid cherry blossoms against a backdrop of verdant surroundings and the quaint old town.
