Stellar Israeli pianist Ilan Rechtman will combine with Bangkok Symphony Orchestra (BSO) principals in a special concert held to celebrate chamber music highlights by three contrasting giants of the 19th century.
Israeli and Thai musicians will perform during the ‘Music Of A Deaf Man, A Perfectionist, And A Genius’ concert at Goethe Institute on Nov 27 at 7.30pm.
Presented by the Bangkok Symphony Orchestra Foundation, in association with the Embassy of Israel, the "Music Of A Deaf Man, A Perfectionist, And A Genius" will be held in the auditorium of Goethe Institute on Nov 27 at 7.30pm.
The classical performance will see the internationally renowned Israeli concert pianist performing alongside home-grown BSO violinist Siripong Tiptan and assistant principal cellist Apichai Laemthong in a programme of masterpieces by Beethoven, Brahms and Mendelssohn.
The evening programme will commence with Beethoven's joyous Violin Sonata No. 8 In G-Major, Op 30, followed by Brahms' Sonata For Piano And Cello No. 1 In E-Minor, Op 38, reflecting the significance the composer put on the piano in his chamber works.
Rechtman, Siripong and Apichai will then join forces for the evening's most substantial masterpiece, Mendelssohn's highly popular Piano Trio No. 1 In D-Minor, Op 49, which is recognised for its brilliance alongside the composer's legendary Octet.
Composed in 1839, the normally conservative Mendelssohn featured the piano more heavily in its composition, thus foreshadowing the approach of later romantic period masters.
To round off an otherwise serious evening of high-quality music, Rechtman's own Three Jazzy Preludes for Piano Trio, from his 1993 Jazzicals, will offer some charming light relief for the audience.
Successful in his own right as a composer, Rechtman has had composition commissions from luminaries Zubin Mehta and Lorin Maazel.
He made his concerto debut at age 11 with the famous Israel Philharmonic, and continues to travel the world, performing with the likes of Yo-Yo Ma and Ivry Gitlis.
