Band reunions are hardly anything new in Thailand, where top hits remain on the airwaves forever and a day. Still, it's nice to reminisce from time to time.

Cat Radio is itself a reincarnation of now-defunct Fat Radio, so it is fitting for Cat Radio to look back on its heyday by inviting beloved bands from the 90s and early 2000s to reform for Saturday's "Cat to the Future" showcase.

With eight legendary and luminary acts in the mix, the concert should be able to pull in the older crowd who want to remember the golden days, when they were still able to stand through eight bands, as well as a younger crowd, one appreciative of music history.

2 Days Ago Kids, Futon, Kidnappers, Ornaree, Proud, See Tao Tur, Siam Secret Service and Thee Chaiyadej are set to perform and bring audiences back to a time gone past, despite the fact that some of the acts still regularly play Thailand's indie circuit.

Original Futon members Momoko, Bee, David and Gene will reunite, with additional help from later member Oh. David and Momoko are travelling to Thailand from Spain and Japan, respectively, for the gig. Dance punk/electroclash outfit Futon was the first of its kind, and has paved the way for many unconventional individuals to blossom in the music world due to its "out there" attitude, insane wardrobe and titillating lyrics. Members of Futon have gone their separate ways, with Gene Kasidit branching out as a solo provocateur and enjoying admirable success.

Members of supergroup 2 Days Ago Kids already had established careers from Boy Trai, Yokee Playboy, P.O.P and Friday. This is the a rare chance to see them on the same stage, crooning their biggest hit Klub Ma Dai Rue Plow (Will You Return?).

Proud and Siam Secret Service still perform regularly, even though all the members have pursued different life paths from producing to running a business. With their strong back catalogues, their performances should be a light-hearted treat.

See Tao Tur and Thee Chaiyadej, on the other hand, rarely make public appearances. See Tao Tur's charismatic frontman, Kongdej Jaturanrasamee, has become an award-winning art house director, but he's still composing new music once in a blue moon. An air traffic controller by trade, Thee Chaiyadej has one of the most tormented yet soothing voices in the business. His is almost impossible to emulate.

Try not to miss Kidnappers, which recently released its first new single in 10 years. The duo has also acquired a new singer, Tiew Disaya. As a forefather of Thai electronic music, Kidnappers, which now largely works in the realm of advertisements, represent all that is great about electronic music. Haunting synth and sweet melodies with aggressive drive, Kidnappers' first showcase in a decade should be compulsory to watch.

"Cat to the Future" will be held at Impact Exhibition Hall 2, Muang Thong Thani, on Saturday. Doors open at 5pm, and the first show is at 6pm. Ticket costs 1,500 baht each. Visit www.thisiscat.com.
