To mark the end of the occupation of Phnom Penh by the Khmer Rouge 40 years ago, Alliance Francaise is holding a photography exhibition entitled, "The Commemoration of the Fall of Phnom Penh", from tomorrow until May 24.
A documentary will be screened tomorrow, at 7.45pm.
The exhibition will recount the important chapter in Cambodia's history through 25 images captured by Roland Neveu, a French photographer based in Asia who visited Phnom Penh two months before the last attack by the Khmer Rouge. His rare photos are collected in his book, La Chute De Phnom Penh.
There will also be a screening of the 100-minute documentary, Cambodge, Après L'adieu (Cambodia, After Farewell), from director Iv Charbonneau–Ching, who was in Phnom Penh on April 17, 1975 — the date of the last attack by the Khmer Rouge — and was able to capture the event on video. The film will be shown with English subtitles.
The opening ceremony of the exhibition will take place at 6.30pm, followed by the film screening at 7.45pm. The exhibition is open to the public on Monday to Saturday, from 8.30am to 7.30pm, and on Sunday, from 8.30am to 4.30pm.
There is no admission fee to the exhibition. Tickets to the screening cost 100 baht. Alliance Francaise is on Witthayu Road. Email culture@afthailande.org or call 02-670-4222.
