A look at this holiday season's best gift sets

SOCIAL & LIFESTYLE

Holiday seasons make it so hard for make-up buffs to not overbuy. Then again, the packages are also pretty good deals that otherwise don't come around throughout the whole year. If you've never tried Skin Inc's products before, now's the time to. This Christmas, they've put the together their best for you to get perfect party skin: a tube of their Pure Revival Peel, Pure Deepsea Hydrating Mask and a custom-blended serum for specific skin types. The non-abrasive and gentle peel is a must-try and easy to use for first timers. Start scrubbing in a circular motion only when the gel has turned into a milky colour to get rid of dead skin cells on your face. Fools for packaging should steer clear of Too Faced, which offers a delightfully doll-house-like Le Grand Palais set that houses miniatures and a palette with the sort of colours you'd find on a unicorn. If you're not that girlie, Ciate's Christmas Tree set gets in the festive mood without going completely overboard with the pink hues. There are three different sets too so you can really browse for the right set of nail polish colours.

This season it's healthy make-up authority Tarte that wins the bling trophy for its glitzy collection. With so many shiny sets and dazzling, Aztec-ish palettes, it's hard to ignore this eco-friendly and cruelty-free label. Old favourites packaged in uber gold-drenched cases and glitter are as much of a statement as your clothes and accessories for the year-end festivities -- you'll actually want to do your touch-ups right in the middle of the party just so people can see them. Our favourite set is their iconic lip tints that come dressed up in gold caps that indicate satin finishes or geometric-patterned caps for matte shades. Perfect as a pack and also pretty enough to split and gift one each to your friends. Otherwise, go big with their limited-edition eyelash curler which comes in a crystal beaded handle.

The make-up house itself is offering toiletries in a snowy theme, with pastel blue and kawaii face decorations that mesh Asian cuteness with Thailand's non-existent winter (oh well, we can still dream). Let it "snow" with their dramatic fizzing snow balls that you can pop into the bath or add some colour with the mini multicolour bath pearls -- a rainbow melange of small beads that comes in soft milky tones. The aroma brings to mind the muted sweetness of flowers that grow in the mountain valleys, hence are not strong when compared to the feisty floral and fruity aromas the brand usually offers during the hotter months. Still, there's lots of glitter now unlike any other time of the year in the solutions and bottle labels, and that makes up for everything.

All collections are available at all Sephora stores.
