The Navy responded immediately by sending personnel to help evacuate those affected.
The local town was left covered in mud and debris.
Buildings and vehicles were also damaged during the mud slide.
Areas left unaffected are swamped by people evacuating the island and heading to the mainland.
Back on the mainland, Trat airport is flooded by tourists.
For more serious cases the military was used to airlift those injured to safety.
An entire house collapsed killing Naree Khok, 43, a local waitress.
The deceased’s husband Rin Khok was also injured and is currently in critical condition.
