Xayaburi Dam Protest

In response to continued progress on the Xayaburi hydropower project, over 60 representatives from eight provinces along the Mekong river gathered in protest at SET-listed Ch Karnchang. The People's Network claims that the developer of US$3.8-billion Xayaburi project has violated a Mekong River Commission resolution stating further study into the project's environmental impact must be completed. They are demanding that construction is suspended immediately. The People's Network also submitted a letter of complaint to Siam Commercial Bank, who they said are among four Thai banks providing loans to the project together with Bangkok Bank, Krung Thai Bank and Kasikorn Bank.
