PHNOM PENH — Cambodia has earned nearly US$40 million from foreign tourists who visited Angkor Wat in the first eight months of this year, according to a report released Friday.
The report by state-run Apsara Authority, which looks after the World Heritage site, showed Cambodia earned $39,823,920 from tourists visiting the area -- a slight increase compared with the same period last year.
On the number of foreign tourist arrivals, it said more than 1.4 million foreign tourists visited the Angkor Wat temple complex since early this year, an increase of 1.92 from a year earlier.
Foreign tourists who want to tour the Angkor Wat complex are required to buy a $20 ticket for a one-day tour, a $40 ticket for three days or a $60 ticket for one week.
The Angkor Wat temples, located 314 kilometres north of Phnom Penh, were collectively named the best tourist attraction in the world by influential travel-guide publisher Lonely Planet.
