Viet minister backs same-sex unions

The Vietnamese Health Ministry has called for same-sex marriage to be legalised, warning that research shows stigma against lesbian, gay, bi-sexual and transgender (LGBT) people can damage their physical and mental health.

Vietnam’s government has been considering whether to legalise same-sex marriage or allow same-sex couples to legally cohabit since last year. Officials last week announced plans to end fines for same-sex couples who "marry".
