Couple seriously wounded in gun attack

NARATHIWAT -- A man and his wife were seriously wounded in a ride-by gun attack in Chanae district on Sunday, police said.

Thewarat Suk-iad, 27, and his wife, Wanchita Sukkaeo, 21, were returning home from Dusongyo market on a motorcycle when they were followed by two men on another motorcycle.

While passing through Ire Butae village in tambon Chang Phuak, the pillion rider of the other motorcycle opened fire at the two with a 9mm pistol, hitting both of them in the body. The incident occurred at around noon.

The man and his wife were seriously injured. They were admitted to Chanae Hospital.

The two attackers fled, leaving two spent bullet shells on the road.

Police were investigating.
