CHIANG MAI - Two people who offered large wildcat skins for sale on Facebook were arrested by undercover police at a local hotel late on Monday night.
The suspects are from Phrae province. They were identified as Rungroj Saenkhampuang, 28, from Nong Muang Khai district, and Thamolwan Promboot, 19 from Long district.
Police said they offered wildcat skins for sale via their Facebook account tanonwan pang. Undercover police then ordered the skins from them. The price was 370,000 baht for eight skins. A meeting was arranged at Chiang Mai Hill Hotel on Huay Kaew Road in Muang district on Monday.
There, police arrested the man and the woman with five clouded leopard skins, two leopard skins and an Asian golden cat skin.
Police quoted them as saying they obtained the furs from Laos. They were charged with smuggling the carcasses of protected wildlife and illegal possession of and trade in the carcasses of protected wildlife.
