SA KAEO -- A Thai man and a Cambodian national were arrested late on Saturday night in Khok Sung district with a large quantity of untaxed football shorts and jerseys, of various brand names, bearing logos and names of well-known football clubs in Britain and Europe.

Acting on a tip-off, a team of border patrol police stopped an Isuzu truck on a road along the Thai-Cambodian border near Non Mak Mun village for a search.

They found a total of 4,280 sets of football shorts and jerseys with the names and logos of well-known football clubs in England and Europe - including Manchester City, Manchester United, Arsenal, Chelsea, Bayern Munic, AC Milan, Real Madrid, Juventus and Paris Saint Germain.

The driver of the truck - Rungcharoen Rutangti, 32, of Sa Kaew province - and Ni Thi, 30, a Cambodian man from Bantey Meanchey, were arrested.

They were charged with smuggling untaxed goods into the country.  The Cambodian national was additionally charged with illegal entry and staying in the country without a permit.

The two suspects were brought to Khok Sung police station for further legal proceedings, along with the smuggled items.
