NARATHIWAT: A villager was shot to death in a gun attack while tapping latex in a rubber plantation in Yingo district early on Sunday, police said.

The man, identified as Ama Ada, 69, of Village Group 5 in tambon Yingo, was found lying dead in the rubber plantation about 300 metres behind his house. He was shot three times in the head, right arm and the body.

A police investigation revealed that Ada was tapping rubber when he was attacked by a gunman hiding in the plantation. When the first bullet tore through his right arm, he tried to run away, but collapsed when a second bullet hit his body. The attacker then ran up to Ada and shot him in the head.

The body was sent to Yingo Hospital for an autopsy.

Police were trying to establish whether the attack was motivated by a personal conflict or related to terrorism in the region.
