The Supreme Court on Tuesday sentenced six Taiwanese and Thai kidnappers to 22 years in jail for abducting a Taiwanese textile executive and his family in 2009.

Four Thais and two Taiwanese, impersonating policemen, abducted the victims for ransom six years ago.

The Thais were identified as Ampon sae Wang, Sarawuth sae Yang, Samut Yangying, and Chingchang sae Lee. The two Taiwanese are Chen Jue Wen and Chang Cha Lun.

Abductees are businessman Ten Li-Wei, his wife, their two children and his mother.

The crime took place during Dec 1-14, 2009. At that time, the kidnappers were 20-30 years old. The businessman and his wife were 36, their children were seven and nine, and his mother Juan Yu-ying was 57 years old.

The gang demanded a ransom of 30 million baht. It also broke into the victims' residence and took their cash and valuables worth over 700,000 baht.

Police arrested the gang when one of its members was exchanging money that it had received from the family's relatives in US dollars. The relatives had withdrawn US$400,000 from Singapore for the ransom.

The kidnappers abducted the couple from Suvarnabhumi airport. The couple, owners of a textile business in Singapore, travelled to Thailand to explore business opportunities when they were snatched.

The gang held Mr Teng in a house on Srinakarin Road in Samut Prakan province, while Mrs Hsu was kept in another house on Soi Phatthanakan 31/1 in Bangkok before being taken to Singapore.

Their children and Mrs Juan were kidnapped by the gang later when they flew in from Singapore.
