RATCHABURI — Two Karen poachers have been arrested for hunting wild animals including a boar in Phachi River Wildlife Sanctuary in Suan Phung district on Sunday evening.

The two men, identified only as Dam and Cho, and an unidentified friend were walking down a mountain carrying fertilizer bags and a shotgun when they ran into eight forest rangers who were patrolling the sanctuary.

The third suspect dropped a fertilizer bag and the shotgun and fled when the rangers approached to search the three.

The rangers found flesh in the bags and the head of a boar, the carcasses of two stump-tailed macaques and a live black terrapin, plus a dead tree monitor lizard and two roughneck monitor lizards, one dead and the other alive.

The suspects were taken to Suan Phung police station where they were charged with illegal hunting. Police said the three are from Ban Huay Nam Nak in Tanowsri sub-district. They are still tracking the third suspect.
