Senior Chiang Mai cops transferred

Pol Gen Somyot Poompanmuang, the national police chief, has signed an order to immediately transfer five senior police officers in Chiang Mai province to temporary duty at the Royal Thai Police Office's operational centre in Bangkok until further notice.

The order stated that the five officers had been negligent in allowing entertainment venues to open near Chiang Mai University and operate beyond the limited hours in violation of an order, dated July 22, of the National Council for Peace and Order.

The five officers transferred were: Pol Col Mongkol Sampawapol, deputy superintendent of Chiang Mai police; Pol Col Vajira Kanchanawipada, chief of Chang Phuak police station; Pol Lt Col Sitthporn Buasuk, deputy chief of Chang Phuak police station; Pol Lt Col Jirathipong Lertviriyanant, suppression chief of Chang Phuak police station; and Pol Maj Narongchai Ekachan, investigation chief of Chang Phuak police station.

They are to report to the RTPO's operational centre by 9am on Monday.

The transfer followed recent raids on entertainment venues near Chiang Mai University.
