A hand grenade found at a Bangkok construction site Monday morning and was handed over to bomb disposal police.
Pol Lt Col Pradit Khumsawat, a officer at Phra Khanong police station, said police were informed after the rusty grenade was found by workers doing piling work at the apartment-construction site on Soi Sukhumvit 81 in Suan Luang district.
Pol Sr Sgt Maj Tewarat Kultanawong, an explosive ordnance-disposal officer, said although the grenade was old and rusty, having been buried for a long time, it was still in working order. It was a high-explosive grenade with a destructive radius of about 15 metres.

He said it looked very much like an MK2 grenade. A closer examination was needed to verify it, he added.
Also Monday, an unknown type of hand grenade was found in Nakhon Ratchasima by villagers who were digging a hole to erect a signpost showing the direction to Nong Kradon village in tambon Bung Or of Kham Thaleso district.
Police went to the scene to take the grenade, which was still in working order, for further disposal.
