Two motorcycle taxi drivers have been arrested with almost 900 kilogrammes of compressed marijuana in Bangkok’s Suan Luang district.
Saharat Khiewpimpa, 20, and Pawan Chankhaikhot, 22 were apprehended on Soi Phattanakan 50 on Wednesday night after they arrived on a motorcycle allegedly delivering a kilo of dried grass to a police officer posing as a drug buyer.
Police then arrested the suspects and extended the investigation that led to the seizure of another 877kg of compressed marijuana from Mr Saharat's rented room in Phra Khanong area.
Pol Lt Gen Sanit Mahathavorn, acting chief of the Metropolitan Police Bureau, said during a media briefing on Thursday that Mr Saharat Implicated another man, identified as Bank of Rama IX , in the illicit drug trade.
The two suspects, who worked as motorcycle taxi drivers, confessed they had been purchased the drugs from Mr Bank, who sold the drugs at 5,000 baht a kilo. The pair later resold the drugs at 7,500 baht a kilo. They would have made a profit of about 2 million baht if they'd sold all the ganja.
Pol Lt Gen Sanit said the drugs were smuggled from the Northeast, adding police have obtained identification of those involved in the drug trade and warrants would be issued soon.
