200 cops protect suspect from mob

CHON BURI – Two hundred officers were deployed to prevent a vengeful mob from harming a man charged with murder and rape, police said on Thursday.

Police said Tiwanon Boonruang, 21, was arrested in connection with the rape and murder of Vimon Taechaban, a 46-year-old beauty clinic owner, last Friday.

About 100 people, including the victim's relatives and friends, constantly yelled and cursed the man while he was re-enacting the crime.

Nobody seems to notice, something is not right here. 21 years old man (i would call him a boy) rapes and murders 46 years old woman. And the 200 cops were available to provide protection. Amazing!

Mitrapaap, he was drunk. Obviously killing someone is the extreme, but take a walk down Walking Street in Pattaya on any given night to see the amount of stupidity that takes place when someone has a few drinks.

"The man said he was afraid that the woman might tell other people so he killed her."

But the fact that a dead body might be found by somebody did not come to his mind... Amazing.

This is a staggering waste of police resources. How is it that 200 police were even available for such nonsense. I am not aware of any other country in the world that requires someone who has been arrested to re-enact the crime. Why is it deemed necessary in Thailand?

Give the Thai Police some of the credit they deserve, I'm quite certain they did not enjoy protecting someone who is likely a murderer, but they did their duty and protected their prisoner. Their performance in catching and then protecting this person is commendable.

If the police need a re-enactment, why don't they do it privately. The public do not need to see it.

Maybe the police should stop with the constant reenacting of crimes which always end up with lots of police doing nothing productive. Without the reenacting maybe the police would have more time to catch criminals – if they are interested to do that.
