Songkhla murder suspect freed on bail

SONGKHLA – The provincial court on Wednesday granted bail to the chairman of the Songkhla Provincial Administration Organisation (PAO) arrested on a charge of hiring hitmen to kill Songkhla municipality mayor Peera Tantiserane last Novermber.

Uthit Chuchuay was freed on bail after his lawyer offered 5 million baht as collateral. The court accepted his bail request and lowered the collateral to 3 million baht.

Mr Uthit was arrested at his house on Na San Road in Muang district on Tuesday.

    Maybe a Thai legal expert can inform us in which cases people can’t get bail in Thailand. Till now I only see that bail is refused in LM cases. But in all other cases, including already convicted murderers, bail is granted. 5 million baht is a lot of money for many ordinary people but many rich and influential Thais would never even notice if they have 5 million baht less from one day to another. Just look at the billions of declared assets of many politicians.

    Do you know why i am keep on highlighting the positive side of police Thailand?

    After reading these sort of stories over and over again, i truly feel what Thai policemen and women must feel when they are investigating
    crimes connected/instigated/or even commited by public figures/high ranking officials or "heirs of fortune"
    The amount of energy in enforcing law and keeping public law and order are constantly ridiculed by wheeling and dealing backstabbers which really demolish not only public profile of the Royal Thai Police but tarnish the relentless reputation as lawenforment in Thailand on a global scale!!

    I really don't understand bail system in this country. money is what matters most... regardless of how severe the crimes you committed.
