Three civilians were killed in two separate drive-by shootings by suspected insurgents in neighbouring Pattani and Narathiwat provinces on Wednesday evening.
The first attack occurred in Narathiwat at 5.30pm, when 59-year-old construction contractor Rawree Mama was shot dead after he stopped his pickup truck to drop off two of his employees at a village in tambon Tanyongmas of Rangae district.
A pickup truck carrying a group of gunmen stopped next to Mr Rawree and fired about a dozen shots, hitting him in the head twice and killing him instantly. Mr Rawree’s employees narrowly escaped death. One of them suffered gunshot wounds to his chest and shoulder, while the other sustained a graze to his right eyebrow.
