Cops investigate campaign poster vandal

Police are investigating whether an academic caught defacing Pheu Thai campaign posters was acting on behalf of a rival political party.

A Furby toy is placed on the desk reserved for Pol Gen Pongsapat Pongcharoen, Bangkok governor candidate No. 9 of the Pheu Thai Party, whose nickname is Judy, at Sripatum University yesterday. He failed to attend a session to showcase his vision. Other candidates includingMR Sukhumbhand Paribatra from the Democrat Party and independent Pol Gen Sereepisuth Temeeyaves and Kosit Suwinitjit, took part.

Maybe the DSI will call in AV and ST for questioning.

Campaign poster defacing in Chiang Mai during the last election, was widespread and targeted pictures of Abhisit exclusively, oddly the police caught no one, never investigated, hardly lifted a finger.

I tore a poster down the other day because it was a hazard to navigation (flapping into the roadway) and there are many others that cause danger and inconvenience by blocking footpaths and overhanging the kerb. If we fined the candidatesa modest sum for each and every dangerous or obstructive poster we could fund all of their election promises and not need a Governor at all.

Why are candidates allowed to place their over-sized campaign posters everywhere in public spaces, blocking the sidewalks, on utility poles, on trees, and just about anywhere they please? They make Bangkok's streets even uglier than usual, and only serve to show which candidate has the most money behind him. Since these posters are placed in public spaces, why should the police protect them from "vandalism"? Shouldn't any person be able to remove them from the public spaces- especially when they block the sidewalks? Or draw funny mustaches on them? Or place stickers on them?

Furby is probably more qualified than all of the candidates combined.

The Furby has more sense and would probably work toward a better run city than any other candidate...he has my vote

"stickers bearing messages attacking Pheu Thai and former premier Thaksin Shinawatra"

Nice to see no prefacing terminology before Mr. Thaksin's name, annoyingly promoting the "Demonize Thaksin to justify a coup" campaign. Given Mr. Abhisit's judicial involvement at the moment, this has become a two-edged sword, as his name could also be demonizingly prefaced.

Some stickers read "We do not vote for an image-making governor"

This "sticker guy" obviously has some fans. This article makes a point of quoting a sticker, which probably gives it greater coverage then the actual deed. And by quoting it here again, I am doing the same thing.
