People with disabilities have been given an extension to apply for 10,000 baht under the government's economic stimulus programme, formerly known as the digital wallet scheme, Minister of Social Development and Human Security Varawut Silpa-archa said on Wednesday.
Mr Varawut urged disabled people or their family members who failed to register for the handout by the Sept 15 deadline to register as quickly as possible because the government has now extended their registration until Dec 3.
He said the Ministry of Social Development and Human Security is now working with the Ministry of Public Health to facilitate registration for the disabled so it can be done easily.
He said the disabled and their families can travel to register to get the funds at the ministry's hospitals nationwide.
Deputy Minister of Finance Julapun Amornvivat said the second phase of the government's economic stimulus programme will continue to boost the country's economy.
He urged those who have not yet linked their national identification (ID) numbers to the PromptPay system to do so by consulting bank officials at any bank without opening a new account.
Mr Julapun said people with disabilities who do not have or need to renew their disability ID cards should act quickly to ensure they can participate in the programme.
He said the first group of 14.5 million state-welfare careholders and disabled people who will each receive 10,000 baht in cash can use the money to purchase any goods.
Meanwhile, Digital Economy and Society Minister Prasert Jantararuangtong said the government-developed Tang Rat application is still under development.
He said the government aims to promote the app as a "super app" supporting a wide range of government services for citizens.
Mr Prasert said the app will also include future economic stimulus measures and may be used to distribute relief funds to flood victims.
On Tuesday, the cabinet approved the economic stimulus programme for the first group of 14.5 million state welfare cardholders and disabled people, each of whom will receive 10,000 baht. Payment will start on Sept 25 via PromptPay, which is linked to their national ID numbers.
