The Department of Land Transport (DLT) has suspended the driving licence of a taxi driver who allegedly admitted verbally and sexually harassing a female customer.
The DLT on Thursday banned Somchai Simli, the driver, from driving a taxi for six months. He will also be fined 5,000 baht for allegedly trying to touch her.
An initial investigation also found Mr Somchai's driver's licence expired on Aug 21 last year.
The probe was conducted jointly by the DLT and the Metropolitan Police Bureau after the passenger posted photos showing Mr Somchai touching her. He also reportedly uttered obscenities at her.
The photos are shown in a YouLike Facebook page post made on Wednesday night.
The police probe was conducted by Pol Col Sanphet Suwantrai of the Metropolitican Police Bureau.
In the clip, which was widely shared on social media, prompting the probe, he also reached out his hand to touch the leg of the woman who was sitting on the back seat.
A message below the clip said the woman and her friend took the taxi to travel from Sukhumvit Soi 11 to On Nut Soi 46 on Wednesday.
However, after the woman's friend left the vehicle on Soi Phatthanakan 25, Mr Somchai started to chat with her before verbally abusing her, and reaching out to touch her leg.
Shortly after the clip was posted on a Facebook page, YouLike, on Wednesday, it was widely shared and went viral on social networks.
According to the DLT, the vehicle also belongs to the Baworn Taxi Cooperative which will be fined 1,000 baht for failing to report the driver's information to the DLT.
The company allowed the car on the road to provide a taxi service even though it lost its registration papers two years ago, it said.
Police will also expand their investigation to see if Mr Somchai was taking drugs.
