AYUTTHAYA - Police are hunting a group of teen motorcycle racers who fired several shots at a trailer truck in Bang Pahan district in the early hours of Saturday. The driver, his wife and their child were unharmed.
The shooting occurred at kilometre maker 36 on Asia Road in tambon Bang Nara at around 3am, said Pol Col Anek Pongsawat, chief of Bang Pahan police station.
It came when the trailer truck, loaded with soybeans, was travelling from Bangkok’s Lat Krabang district to Sukhothai, said Suthit Jinpala, who drove the truck and was accompanied by his wife and their 7-year-old daughter.
At the time, there were more than 50 motorcycles racing on the left lane of Asia Road, prompting the truck driver to shift to the middle lane. This sparked anger among the teen racers, some of whom followed and sprayed bullets at the truck, said the driver, who told police he dared not stop his vehicle.
He sped away from the scene and found rescue workers in a nearby area from whom he sought help.
Police rushed to the scene after being alerted and found the truck was hit by 11 bullets -- two each on the windscreen and the right door and seven on the left door.
Pol Col Anek said teams of police were despatched to Bang Pahan district and nearby areas to track down the teen racers responsible for the attack.
