Prime Minister Prayut Chan-o-cha on Monday issued an order for relevant authorities to ensure correct religious teachings and to propose measures to protect religions to the cabinet within three months.
Gen Prayut issued the order in his capacity as the chief of the National Council for Peace and Order (NCPO) by the authority under Section 44 of the interim constitution.
The order came "after some parties were trying to distort religious diversities in the country to create conflicts among believers".
Under the 49/2559 order, government agencies will support correct religious teachings and studies.
He also instructed several agencies to come up with measures and mechanisms to block attempts to undermine Buddhism and other religions to be proposed to the cabinet within three months for approval.
The agencies are the NCPO secretariat; the ministries of culture, justice, interior, foreign affairs, and tourism and sports; the National Security Council; the Southern Border Provinces Administrative Centre; the Office of National Buddhism; religious education institutes; Sangha administrative organisations; and government-certified religious organisations.
