The sense of loss following the deaths of Mayeng Wohbah and his five-year-old daughter Mitra, both of whom were killed in the blast in Narithiwat's Tak Bai district, has become more acute.

Mayeng's death has left his six-year-old son Masan an orphan.

Mayeng, 36, had been divorced from his wife, and his parents had already died some time ago. His son is now in the care of his sister-in-law, Maela Wohbah.

According to Mahama Suriya Wohbah, the brother of Mayeng, Mayeng worked as a security guard at Channel 3 TV in Bangkok for four years before quitting his job last year.

After his divorce, Mayeng returned to his home province of Narathiwat and worked as a hired hand carrying rice sacks in Ban Taba village, Mr Mahama said.

Following Mayeng's death, his sister-in-law has to shoulder the burden of looking after his son.

Mr Mahama has appealed to relevant agencies to help the boy and the family who live in poverty.

A Channel 3 security guard who was Mayeng's colleague said he heard the news of Tuesday's bombing in Narathiwat province and he was shocked to learn that his former workmate had fallen victim to the deadly attack.

The security guard, who did not give his name, said Mayeng was a nice and hard-working man who was ready to help people.

Mayeng loved his daughter very much, he added.

Mayeng once joined Channel 3's flood relief efforts to help victims during the devastating floods that hit the country in 2011, the security guard said.

The grief-stricken family of Talmeesee Madao were also struggling to come to terms with his death.

Talmeesee is survived by his seven-month-old baby.

Talmeesee was a vendor who was among the injured victims and later succumbed to the wounds from the blast.

Narathiwat governor Sitthichai Sakda on Wednesday gave 500,000 baht in financial aid to each of the families of the dead victims.

Channel 3 also donated 30,000 baht to each of the families.

Meanwhile, netizens have also launched a campaign on social media to seek donations from the public for the orphaned Masan.
