A dismembered body of a foreign man was sent for a computed tomography autopsy at another hospital on Monday as police try to find more evidence to end the mystery of his identity.
The body was transferred from King Chulalongkorn Memorial Hospital to Thammasat University Hospital in Khlong Luang district in Pathum Thani to undergo the CT autopsy, as the former does not have the equipment.
Udomsak Hoonwijit of King Chulalongkorn Memorial Hospital said the high-technology equipment could give more clues from the wounds and tissues of the body.
The post-mortem result at the hospital's Forensic Science Institute has not come out.
The body was found in a freezer when police raided an apartment on Sukhumvit Soi 56 on Friday to crack down on an alleged passport forgery operation. Three foreigners were arrested and charged with multiple offences including concealing a corpse.
Two of them are Americans identified in their passports as James Douglas Eger and Aaron Thomas Gabel. The other suspect is Peter Andrew Colter, a British national.
Police are asking for help from the US Federal Bureau of Investigation to identify the body.
Pol Lt Col Supote Nakngernthong, director of the Central Institute of Forensic Science under the Justice Ministry, who witnessed the autopsy at Thammasat University's Rangsit campus, said the result could help police and the FBI identify the body.
National police chief Pol Gen Chakthip Chaijinda said investigators are still figuring out whether the body was that of a person identified in one of the fake passports found during the raid.
