The naked body of a Frenchman was found at a resort in Phuket province yesterday.
The deceased was identified by police as Renia Sylvain Bernard, 28.
Patong police was alerted to his death at the Nest Resort in tambon Patong of Kathu district about 9.30 am yesterday.
When police and rescue workers arrived at the scene, they found Renia's body in his room at the resort.
The body was found kneeling on the floor with his face pressed against the wall.
His personal belongings were also scattered all over the room. Police said an initial investigation indicated the Frenchman could have been dead for less than six hours.
No signs of trauma or physical abuse were found.
According to accounts of resort employees, Renia checked in to the resort alone. Last week, he also went to see a doctor at a local hospital due to food poisoning.
Police suspected Renia may have suffered from severe health conditions, possibly aggravated from a chronic illness.
His body was taken to Patong Hospital for a post-mortem examination.
