Man drowns in Ayutthaya flooding

AYUTTHAYA - A man drowned in front of his flooded home in Bang Ban district of this central province on Saturday, a village chief revealed on Sunday.

Chaluay Ngamrabiab, chief of Moo 1 village in tambon Ban Kum of Bang Ban district, identified the man as Preecha Urairangkul, 43. She said that his house, which is situated by the Chao Phraya River, was about 1.5 metres under water.

His body is being kept at Thammasat Hospital in Rangsit area and will be moved to Wat Khok Hiran for funeral rites later Sunday.

The floodwater level was expected to rise by 50 to 70 centimetres after it was announced that the Chao Phraya Dam would increase water discharge from 2,000 cubic metres per second to 2,300 cubic metres on Sunday morning.

Hardest hit by the floodwater are Bang Ban and Sena districts.
