Singapore Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong on Friday paid his respects to the late King Bhumibol in the Dusit Maha Prasat Throne Hall at the Grand Palace.

Mr Lee and his wife Ho Ching arrived at the Dusit Maha Prasat Throne Hall at 10.15am to lay a wreath and pay respect to the late monarch. The Singapore leader then signed a message of condolence at the Red Room of the Royal Household Bureau inside the palace.

He attended a ceremony to pay tribute to the late King at the Thai embassy in Singapore on Friday, one day after the Royal Household Bureau announced his passing at Siriraj Hospital.

In a condolence letter to Prime Minister Prayut Chan-o-cha on Oct 14, he paid tribute to the role of King Bhumibol.

"He will always be deeply revered by the people of the Kingdom of Thailand and around the world.  We shall also remember the role he played in fostering the enduring friendship between the Kingdom of Thailand and the Republic of Singapore," he said.

Other leaders scheduled to pay the respects to the late King include Malaysian Prime Minister Najib Razak and Cambodian Premier Hun Sen, who are due on Saturday.

Lao Prime Minister Thongloun Sisoulith is scheduled to arrive at the Dusit Maha Prasat Throne Hall on Monday.

Malaysian King Sultan Abdul Halim, Brunei King Sultan Hassanal Bolkiah and Indonesian President Joko Widodo will be at the Grand Palace on Oct 28.
